Dr. Oakes is Associate Professor in the Geriatrics Division of the Department of Family and
Community Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio. Her primary
interests are in geriatric education in primary care, multidisciplinary care of the elderly, ethics, end of
life issues and the development of an acute care for the elderly (ACE) unit. She received her MD from
the National University of Colombia, completed her residency and geriatric fellowship  at UTHSCSA
and she is currently the Fellowship geriatric coordinator for curriculum development. Dr Oakes is
board certified in family medicine and geriatric medicine and is a Fellow of the American Academy of
Family Physicians and a Fellow of the American Geriatric Society. She is the Principal Investigator  on
a research program to transport the caregiver program SAVYY for the Latino Community "Cuidando
Con Respeto" addressing the needs of caregivers of patients with Dementia. She is also the
recipient of a 3-year Geriatric Academic Career Award. Dr Oakes has authored numerous scientific
papers.
John Adair, MD

Dr. Adair is Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of New Mexico and
staff Neurologist at the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center.  He received his medical degree and
then completed residency training at the University of Utah in 1991.  Dr. Adair was certified by the
American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in 1992 and worked in private practice at the Salt Lake
Clinic for two years.  He underwent Behavioral Neurology training at the Center for
Neuropsychological Studies at the University of Florida and received certification in Behavioral
Neurology & Neuropsychiatry by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties in 2007.  Dr. Adair
is an active member of the American Academy of Neurology, including the Academy’s sections for
Behavioral Neurology and Geriatric Neurology, as well as the International Neuropsychological
Society and the American Neuropsychiatric Association.  He joined the University of New Mexico in
1995.
